What is OpenRAN
At the end of 2023, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin also signed an order allocating more than 632 million rubles for the creation of mobile base stations using OpenRAN technology. The work is being carried out within the framework of the roadmap "Modern and promising mobile networks" until 2030.

According to Andrey Natashkin, bangladesh whatsapp number database founder and CEO of Mirey Robotics, OpenRAN technology was first discussed in Russia in 2019. The interest was so extensive that a working group was soon created at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, which included the largest manufacturers of telecom equipment. This technology is especially relevant in the context of 5G development.

— Most often, experts refer to this technology as an open radio access network. The goal of OpenRAN technology is to combine equipment from different manufacturers and expand the list of suppliers. All major telecom operators are interested in this technology. The reason is very simple. Building a radio access network is one of the most significant expense items for telecommunications companies. This is approximately 80% of all operator expenses on network construction, — said Natashkin.

According to the expert, OpenRAN is an innovative element in the communications ecosystem. The technology is based on virtual components that are interconnected via open interfaces. In 2021, analysts from the international agency Deloitte published a large study, where they outlined a ten-year period for the distribution of OpenRAN. According to their estimates, by 2031, the share of OpenRAN technology will reach 80% in the Russian telecommunications market.

The innovation of OpenRAN lies in its open architecture and standardized interfaces, which allow mobile operators to choose components for their network independently of suppliers. This frees them from vendor dependence, which increases competition in the market and stimulates innovative development, Alexey Izosimov, technical director of T1 Integration, explained to Izvestia.
