Is higher education necessary in IT?
Most Russians (81%) are convinced that to work in IT in a technical position (for example, as a developer, tester or cybersecurity specialist), you need to have a specialized higher education. But every tenth (11%) thinks otherwise, according to a study by Kaspersky Lab received by the Izvestia editorial office.

More than half (64%) of respondents belgium whatsapp number database are also sure that programming should be studied in school: 37% - starting in elementary grades, and 27% - only in high school. At the same time, almost every fifth (21%) Russian noted that the basics of digital literacy should be taught along with programming.

In the era of rapid technological development, it is necessary to introduce children to the principles of the digital world already at school or even preschool age, says Evgeniya Russkikh, head of the information security training department at Kaspersky Lab.

According to the expert, specialized education will also not be superfluous: it is useful in building a successful career. But it is much more important that education is continuous - this means that specialists will have to update their knowledge throughout their lives, regardless of their diploma or chosen profession.

According to experts interviewed by Izvestia, higher education in IT is necessary for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is the foundation that lays the foundation for competencies, says Associate Professor of the IT Department at Synergy University Lidiya Terekhova. Secondly, during the course of study, the student will have time to understand which of the areas is interesting to him, and then he will be able to develop in it further. But then it is better for him to initially choose a more general training course.

At the same time, Evgeniya Russkikh points out, it is important to choose a university with a program that meets market demands. The university should closely cooperate with industry leaders - only in this way will students have a fundamental technical base with access to the knowledge possessed by practicing specialists.

Konstantin Kogos, Deputy Director of the Institute of Intelligent Cybernetic Systems at MEPhI, gives an example: today in Russia there is a growing need to train specialists in the DevSeсOps field, capable of creating secure IT solutions, as well as experts specializing in offensive security. In both cases, training such personnel is a complex systemic task that can only be solved jointly with leading universities, IT companies, and industry partners.

“In our opinion, such employees should receive a high-quality technical education with a serious mathematical and engineering background,” says Kogos.

Thus, concludes Lidiya Terekhova, having a higher education gives a big plus to a future applicant. But a diploma cannot be considered the only indicator of quality knowledge. After all, when applying for a job, it is not only the diploma that is important, but also the skills that are tested during the interview when completing test tasks.
