After the US imposed sanctions against the Russian Gazprombank, it became impossible to transfer money from Russian cards to cards of foreign banks, Russians who left to live abroad told Expert magazine on condition of anonymity.
It is specified that Russians who receive their salaries in rubles and live in Georgia, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan, and Cyprus have encountered a similar problem. As a Japanese translator living in Serbia explained, it is still possible to transfer money from a Russian card to a local one through a number of banks in Central Asian countries, but with the help of a VPN.
A Russian who has been living in Cyprus since 2022 reported that the working scheme there used to be transfers to cards of Armenian banks, and then a transfer to a local one. Now this mechanism works unstable and not always.
On November 21, the US Department of the Treasury announced the introduction of sanctions against the Russian Gazprombank.
