Connected TV, abbreviated as CTV, is watching television via the internet. Instead of a traditional cable or satellite connection, you connect the television to the internet. You can then stream programs from various online platforms such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video. Many households already use these services, but (for now) as a supplement to linear television.

CTV is rapidly growing in popularity due to the many benefits it offers. While it is difficult to predict exactly what will happen in the future, there are several reasons why CTV could replace linear television and become the standard.

More and more people are switching to email leads streaming films, series, documentaries and programs instead of watching linear TV broadcasts. I notice this myself. Why should I 'have to' sit in front of the television at a certain time, when I can watch a program whenever I want? I only watch linear television when I'm bored or feel like zapping.

Flexibility is therefore an important advantage of CTV. In addition to being able to choose your own moment, you also decide on which device you want to watch. On your smartphone on the train, or on your laptop in bed... I will mention a number of advantages and disadvantages.

Benefits of CTV
More choice and flexibility . With CTV, you as a viewer have more choice and flexibility in what you want to watch and when you want to watch it. You can choose from a wide range of programs and movies that are available on different streaming platforms.
Better quality . CTV often offers higher quality video than traditional television, with many services offering their content in HD or even 4K. This means sharp images and vibrant colors.
No Ads . Many CTV services offer the option to opt for ad-free subscriptions. This means that viewers will not be interrupted by annoying ads during their viewing experience.
Cost-effective . It is generally cheaper than traditional television because you only pay for certain streaming services, instead of one large amount for the entire channel package.
