Wire cutting, or wire EDM cutting, has several essential characteristics:

These machines allow multiple cuts to be made on a fast reciprocating wire EDM machine, also known in some circles as a "medium speed wire EDM." This term does not refer to an intermediate speed, but rather a combination of high speed wires for roughing and low speed wires for finishing, resulting in a quality intermediate between high and low speed machines.
Wire cutting characteristics

High precision : The fine wire allows very precise cuts, forex dataset with an accuracy of ±0.01mm and a surface roughness of Rα 1.25-2.5um.
Soft Shapes : Ideal for small and complex parts, especially irregular shapes or sharp corners.
Minimal heat effect : The heat generated is localized, suitable for heat-sensitive materials and maintains dimensional stability.
No macroscopic cutting force : Non-contact processing avoids part deformation, making it suitable for low-rigidity parts with high surface finish.
High material utilization : The narrow cutting width helps minimize material loss, but the cost is higher, making it less suitable for mass production.
Automated Control : Wire EDM uses easily adjustable electrical parameters and a CNC system for automated control.
Despite these advantages, wire EDM has limitations, such as slower processing speed, wire breakage, and higher costs. It can only process conductive materials, so choosing the right method depends on the specific application requirements and cost considerations.

Common Wire Cutting Materials
In theory, any conductive material can be processed by wire EDM machines. The most common materials are:

Carbon tool steel : Grades T7, T8, T10A, T12A. High hardness after quenching, but requires surface treatment. Heat treatment to eliminate internal stresses before cutting the wire.
Alloy tool steel : Grades Cr12, Cr12MoV, Cr4W2MoV. Known for its high hardenability and wear resistance, it is used in complex molds.
Quality carbon structural steel : Grades 20, 45. Suitable for plastic mold making, but with moderate wire cutting performance.
Cemented carbide : YG and YT series. High hardness and stability, used for complex molds and tools, but slow cutting speed.
Aluminum : Light and strong, good wire cutting performance but with moderate surface roughness.
Wide application of wire cutting
CNC wire EDM is mainly used for processing various stamping dies, plastic molds. It can also cut molds for powder metallurgy, as well as various templates, magnetic steel, semiconductor materials or precious metals. It can also realize micromachining operations, such as processing shaped grooves and standard defects on test parts. This technique opens up new prospects for the trial production of new products, the processing of precision parts and the manufacturing of spare parts. mold manufacturing .
