Arctic operator begins drifting towards reality
The creation of a trans-Arctic communications operator will be part of the Northern Sea Route development plan until 2035, which was approved by the Russian government. In the next 15 months, Rosatom, the Ministry of Digital Development, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Industry and Trade must submit a concept for implementing this project to the government.

According to Igor Langeman, Roscosmos cooperates with the State Corporation Rosatom. "We do not claim a leading position and are always ready to provide assistance and share information, including on a partnership basis," he emphasized.
Winter's Tale
There are many telecommunications projects underway or planned in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation, and all of them have a chance to become part of the infrastructure of the trans-Arctic communications operator. One of the significant land-based projects that has reached the implementation stage is the Polar Express underwater fiber-optic communication line (SFOCL): it will run along the bottom of the Russian northern and eastern seas, connecting with Murmansk and Vladivostok. Construction of this SFOCL began in the summer of 2021.
