The easiest way to get an accurate comment count is to use Simple Blog Stats . This plugin shows the total number of approved comments and comments in moderation. However, pings and trackbacks are not counted.

However, if you want to include trackbacks and pings in the total comment count, we recommend using Method 2 instead.
