On June 14, the head of Rosstandart Anton Shalayev signed order No. 27-pnst, which approved the preliminary national standard PNST921-2024"Information technology. Internet of things. Internet of things communication networks. Protocol for low-speed data exchange via satellite communication channels. Part 1. Data exchange via subscriber lines of low-orbit systems." It will enter into force on July 1, 2024 and will be valid for three years - until June 1, 2027.

The PNST is based on the LoRaWAN protocol and LoRa technology, adapted for use in a multi-satellite low-orbit Internet of Things (IoT) system with a globally distributed network infrastructure. The standard was developed by the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Research Institute of Radio", subordinate to the Ministry of Digital Development.

Deputy Director of the NTI tunisia whatsapp resource Platform ANO, Chairman of TC 194 "Cyber-Physical Systems" Nikita Utkin called the development of the standard a proactive work that will continue in the future: "With the initiative to develop this pre-standard, we are largely working for the future and ahead of the curve, recognizing the importance of forming unified and seamless approaches to organizing a data transmission network based on the use of a low-orbit constellation for the Internet of Things. Therefore, it would be fair to say that with the approval of the pre-standard, the work is by no means finished, but has begun in a new capacity."

the Research Institute of Radio attracted experts from the Roscosmos State Corporation and JSC Reshetnev to reflect in it the technical solutions used in the IoT Marathon system. Without our support, this work simply would not have happened," Sergei Prokhorov, Director of the Department of Advanced Programs and the Sfera Project at Roscosmos, told a ComNews correspondent.

Technical Committee 194 "Cyber-Physical Systems" (TC 194) submitted the PNST on satellite IoT for public discussion on July 31, 2023. At that moment, several companies that were involved in the development of the IoT Marathon project at the initial stage (this work was carried out by JSC VISAT-TEL, JSC ITC Severnaya Korona, FSUE Research Institute of Radio, LLC Laboratory of the Internet of Things, LLC ARD Satcom Service, LLC Radio Technologies, LLC Goodwin) sounded the alarm. They drew attention to the fact that the PNST has significant differences from the appearance of the IoT Marathon system, which was laid down by JSC Reshetnev - the lead developer of the entire system and the manufacturer of spacecraft for this low-orbit group.

In particular, they found that the PNST declares a technology and protocol for a system with a globally distributed network infrastructure that ensures the organization of self-sufficient regional or national IoT networks around the world to provide seamless IoT services. The role of operators of these IoT networks is assumed to be local national operators of terrestrial networks (cellular or LPWAN), while Reshetnev's technical solutions, on the contrary, are focused on strict centralization of the IoT network.
