In 2024, as part of a project to create a competency map for specialists in the field of information modeling, the PRO TIM team, together with the BIM Leaders Club, launched a series of video interviews with industry experts. The main goals of the project are to reveal the specifics of their work in various positions, talk about their experience and path to development, and introduce the audience to the working days of professionals.
In one of the episodes, we talked to Gennady Dryagin, BIM manager at Svobodnye Tekhnologii Inzhenering, a germany phone number list company specializing in the creation of data processing centers. He shared his views on his daily responsibilities and also talked about the problems that arise when combining several positions.
"Svobodnie Tekhnologii Inzhenering" was founded three years ago. Today, the company's employees mainly specialize in the development and construction of data processing centers (DPC):
"We are making a complex: concept, design, installation, commissioning, operation are all done on a turnkey basis. We are building data centers all over Russia both for ourselves and for commercial customers," said Gennady Dryagin.
The company also develops related projects in the field of general civil engineering: it develops and builds engineering systems and refrigeration centers. The most famous project in this category is probably the work on engineering systems for the Bauman Moscow State Technical University complex.
The path from designer to BIM manager
After graduating from the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MGSU), Gennady spent a long time designing low-current systems . It happened that projects included about 15 different sections. Gradually, he began to delve into information modeling technologies and became a BIM specialist, still mostly involved in design. After several years of immersion in a new professional field, around 2018, the expert appreciated "all the delights of automation" and was inspired by the idea of changing work processes from the point of view of an ordinary employee.
On his way to the position of BIM manager, Gennady, like many others, faced the problem of combining work as a designer and a BIM specialist. The main difficulty was that when moving from design to management, a person needs to choose skills and competencies for further development. The manager is obliged to analyze the process, standardize it and implement digital technologies. If he focuses on design, he risks getting bogged down in routine and will not be able to manage the process at the proper level.
