Place
Choose a comfortable, safe place for your child. This could be at home, in a professional photography studio, or outdoors in a park or garden. Most cake smashes take place either at home or in a studio. Take care to make sure your baby is safe and comfortable. At this age, many babies will at least crawl, and we don't want anything nearby that could create a fall or choking hazard.

Pay attention to the lighting! If the baby is in a professional mexico number lookup studio, your photographer will take care of this for you. If you are doing a cake smash at home, I recommend doing it during the day if possible, and positioning the baby facing (or to the side) of a nice big window so you can get plenty of natural light. Turn off the overhead lights and get ready to take photos!

background
If you're photographing your baby at home, clear the background of anything distracting. Be aware of clutter on the counter and try to keep the focus on the baby. Often frosting (especially colored frosting) will leave some residue, so be sure to consider the possibility of a baby being nearby and make sure anything the baby can touch is easy to clean.

If you're in a studio, you'll probably have some say in your Smash Session background theme. Whether you stick with something simple like a balloon arch, or go for a more detailed theme, I recommend keeping things a little simple so the focus is on the baby. Find tasteful ways to bring up your theme without overwhelming your child. I like to keep a blank space where the baby is and have a few main theme elements in the background. Usually these include a prop or two, some balloons or banners, and a prop of some kind.
