One of the most important functions of the MBA Association is to provide quality control by accrediting institutions offering MBAs through an accreditation system. Currently, 37 of the UK's 118 business schools have programmes accredited by the MBA Association.

The importance that schools place on such accreditation is evidenced by the fact that many overseas schools, even in countries as far away as Asia, now seek this standard of quality control. The assessment criteria are rigorous and serve as a kind of consumer protection for prospective students.

People who do not have work experience should not consider studying for an MBA. The Association advises recent graduates to postpone it until they have at least two, and preferably three or four, years of solid work experience. According to the MBA Association's latest Career and Salary Survey, salaries for MBA graduates have risen steadily over the past four years. All have earned above average, reflecting the positive impact of an MBA on salary levels. The survey also shows that respondents see both immediate and permanent career advancement after their studies.

More than half of respondents are now in senior management positions, while the number of MBAs in junior positions is still quite low. MBA graduates enjoy an average of 2.5 promotions since qualifying.
