Capterra's latest study surveyed 517 employees who use generative AI at least a few times a month for their work. We present the most important facts about the use of generative AI in German companies and then provide an overview of the most frequently cited concerns and risks of the technology. 1. Generative AI is most commonly used for text creation
Articles, videos, visualizations... The possibilities for generative AI are many and adapt perfectly to the business world, helping employees create a variety of content that is important for the progress of their work. If there is one area where this technology is particularly used, it is writing and editing texts: almost half of generative AI users (47%) use the technology for text creation and 44% for text editing.
Areas of application of generative AI in companies
If you look at the most popular areas of application of generative AI, it is not surprising that ChatGPT is the most popular program among the employees surveyed. ChatGPT revolutionizes the interactions between people and artificial intelligence.

2. Generative AI in companies: an employee-initiated practice
It's nice to see employees taking the initiative when it comes to adopting new technologies to make their work easier and increase productivity.
In 57% of companies, the introduction of generative AI was initiated by employees, while in 39% the management team introduced a policy.
93% of employees who use generative AI have informed their employer. This is important because companies can support them and set policies to ensure that their use is safe and of high quality. 61% of companies have introduced rules or policies for employees who use generative AI tools at work.

Employees receive mandatory training on the appropriate use of generative AI tools as well as on data protection and ethical considerations.

We asked employees who use generative AI for their work at least a few times a month how often the new technology is actually used. A full 27% use generative AI several times a day, 47% a few times a week and 26% a few times a month.
