Let's go back to our expression "playing with fire". So we can already start by stopping at each word. The first word is a verb, so the verb "to play", which means to have fun. The term "to play" really refers to fun. So for example, we often use this word about children to say that they play, that they have fun. We can also say "play video games, play football, play cards" etc.
And the second word is the word "with", which is a preposition and means with the help of, by means of, in company with.
And finally, the last word, the word "fire", well it's the combustion of something that gives off heat and light. So we use it for cooking, we use it for heating, fire, we use it to burn things etc.
