E-mail is still the Germans' favorite means of communication. In 2017 alone, around 770 billion e-mails (excluding spam messages) were sent. And that's despite the fact that I hardly know anyone who jumps up from their desk at work and shouts "Hurrah" when a new e-mail appears on their monitor. This is because e-mails are often the source of conflicts or waste time. The main reason for this potential for conflict is that, unlike face-to-face conversations, e-mails do not contain non-verbal messages. The lack of this emotional component means that the message can very easily be misunderstood.
