There are still very few major airlines that connect Mongolia directly to other countries. To get to the land of blue skies, you will have to make stopovers. For example, from Paris to Ulan Bator , count on about 20 hours of travel with a stopover in either Berlin , Beijing , or Moscow . However, do not be surprised if your flight is sometimes cancelled due to frequent climate changes. Aeroflot and Air China are two companies that regularly connect Ulan Bator to Moscow and Beijing.
Since Mongolia has very little infrastructure and is sparsely populated, there are about forty airports, although only one is international, that of the capital. In addition, of these 40 airports in operation, only about ten have paved runways. Note, among other things, that the Mongolian Airlines (MIAT) company connects a good number of large cities to tourist sites.
The car
Mongolia has a rudimentary road network . This disastrous state of the roads is partly due mom data to the changing effects of the climate. As a result, driving can be dangerous. Apart from the fact that very few roads are paved, there are almost no road signs indicating the way to take given the vastness of the territory. At night, you will not find any lighting on the roads. The best thing would be to hire a driver.
The train
There is only one railway line that crosses the country from north to south. It is the Trans-Mongolian. This line goes from Russia to China and passes through Ulaanbaatar and the steppe plains. Although economical, this type of transport remains unsafe and does not take you to all the tourist sites in the country.
