Anonymous Communication: Setting a Telegram username (@YourUsername) is a powerful way to communicate without revealing your phone number. You can share your username publicly, and people can find and message you without needing your actual number.
Primary Contact Method: If your phone number visibility is set to "Nobody," your username becomes the primary means for new contacts to initiate a conversation with you on Telegram.
4. Contact Syncing and Your Phone Number
Optional Feature: Telegram offers a "Sync Contacts" feature (Settings > Privacy and Security > Contacts). If enabled, Telegram securely uploads the phone numbers (and associated names) from your device's address book to its cloud servers.
Purpose: This is solely to identify which of your existing phone contacts are already on Telegram, making it easier to discover and connect with friends and family on the platform. It also allows Telegram to notify you when a contact from your phone book joins.
Not Public: The data from your synced contacts is not made public. It is used internally by Telegram for the contact discovery service. You can disable contact syncing at any time and "Delete Synced Contacts" to remove previously synced data from Telegram's servers.
5. Changing Your Phone Number
Seamless Migration: You can change the phone number associated with your Telegram account directly within the app without losing any of your chats, contacts, or media.
Process: Go to Settings > Account > Phone telegram number database Number > Change Number. You will enter your new number, and a verification code will be sent to it. Once verified, your entire account seamlessly migrates to the new number. Your old number is immediately delinked.
6. Anonymous Numbers (Fragment)
For the highest level of privacy and to avoid linking a traditional SIM card to your Telegram account, you can use anonymous blockchain-powered phone numbers purchased via Telegram's Fragment platformGenerate.
