The Fundamental Role of Phone Numbers in Telegram
At its core, Telegram uses a phone number for:
Account Creation & Unique Identification: Every Telegram account is uniquely identified by a phone number (whether personal, virtual, or anonymous).
Authentication & Security: Your phone telegram number database number is essential for receiving login codes (SMS or in-app) and verifying your identity, especially when logging in from new devices.
Contact Discovery: It allows Telegram to connect you with friends already on the platform by matching numbers from your device's address book (if synced).

II. Mastering Your Phone Number's Privacy Settings (Crucial!)
These are your primary tools to control who sees your number.
Access Path: Settings > Privacy and Security > Phone Number
"Who can see my phone number?"
"Nobody" (Recommended for Max Privacy): Your phone number will never be visible on your profile to any other user. This is the strongest setting.
"My Contacts": Only users who are in your phone's address book (and have you as a Telegram contact) will see your number on your profile.
"Everybody" (Avoid for Privacy): Your phone number will be publicly visible on your profile to anyone who views it.
"Nobody" (Recommended for Max Privacy): No one, not even people who have your number saved in their contacts, will be able to find your Telegram profile by searching for that number within the app. You'll only be discoverable via your username.
