André Odermatt is a Zurich city councilor, head of building construction and actually a nice person. On Thursday he announced his plan for his own immortality: the demolition of the 94-year-old theater hall in the Zurich Schauspielhaus and a new construction. As a consolation, he added that the outside appearance of the theater would of course remain the same. Welcome to Disneyland!
Now you have to know that the Pfauensaal has historical canada rcs data significance. During the Second World War it was a stronghold of resistance. Many artists, such as Therese Giehse, Kurt Horwitz and Leopold Lindtberg, who fled to Switzerland from fascist countries, found a stage here. Various plays by Bertolt Brecht that were banned abroad were performed here for the first time. Later, it was plays by Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt, or - to arrive at the present day - those by Christoph Marthaler that attracted international attention. Anne-Marie Blanc, the mother of Condor boss and ADC Hall of Fame member Martin Fueter, also celebrated great triumphs on these Pfauen stages. Dürrenmatt himself confessed in his poem "Kronenhalle" that he "felt at home" on the stage of the Schauspielhaus - "surrounded by scenery". The celebrated world author did not feel a lack of space, as Odermatt and his people have now given as one of the reasons for the planned demolition. An employee of the Schauspielhaus, whom I met by chance this morning, had tears in his eyes when he told me about the plans of the Zurich city authorities. And this was not out of joy.
