Weaknesses in external data management increase cyber risks

According to Kiteworks ' 2023 Sensitive Content Communications Privacy and Compliance Report , organizations are facing challenges in securing communications channels for sharing data with third-party partners and vendors, exposing themselves to increased levels of risk, ComputerWeekly reports.
Serious gaps in digital rights management (DRM) policies are putting organisations in trouble, according to a global study by Kiteworks of 781 IT, cybersecurity, risk and compliance professionals, 29% of whom are from EMEA.
do not have the tools to monitor, control, and protect data that is sent to or shared with third parties, creating a significant risk of unauthorized access, both malicious and accidental.
“The findings highlight the need for digital rights cyprus mobile database that applies a content-driven zero trust system across all departments and all sensitive data that is accessed, sent, shared, and transmitted to third parties,” said Frank Balonis, CISO and senior vice president of operations at Kiteworks. “This cannot be done in a piecemeal fashion, but rather requires unified tracking and control down to the individual user level.”
Too many tools
A large part of the problem appears to be the number of systems and tools organizations use to monitor, control, and secure communications with third parties: 84% of respondents said they use more than four such services, and 85% said they had encountered four or more exploits when transmitting sensitive content in the past 12 months.
A slightly smaller proportion of respondents, about 75%, acknowledge that they need some improvement in how they assess the risks associated with sharing sensitive content. On the other hand, less than 25% of respondents said that they manage or limit third-party access to their sensitive data.
Therefore, according to the researchers, organizations need to “redesign” their DRM system. 42% of respondents agreed that they need a completely new approach or at least significant improvements in this area.
In particular, many organizations
