In a conversation with RIA Novosti, Blokhin recalled that Ukraine is a strategic asset for the West, for which the latter has been fighting since the 1990s, so the West has no reason to give up this asset and “give us Ukraine for free.”

In particular, if the American military-industrial complex and American elites refuse to support Ukraine, they will lose a tool for weakening Russia and enriching themselves, the political scientist noted.

According to Blokhin, Trump will most likely want to exchange Ukraine for China.

"So the US is refusing to support Ukraine, and you, Russians, are cutting your strategic partnership with China. Will we go along with this? Unlikely."

Overall, Blokhin estimates the likelihood of success in achieving peace in Ukraine as 50/50 and calls for looking at the negotiation process “without any illusions.”
